Mulvey Silver Template

© 2005, Rich Kulesus (mrbiotech)

This template was generated as an early prototype for the laboratory of Matthew Mulvey at the University of Utah. The hope was to use a CMS, in this case Mambo, to store laboratory protocols as well as provide a central calendar for laboratory events. It was started around the same time I joined the lab for my Ph.D. thesis work. Ultimately, Mambo was never installed on the network due to difficulties getting a MySQL database and functioning PHP on the Pathology web-server. By the time this was rectified, I was in the midst of preliminary exams and hadn't the time to finish the project.

Eventually we installed TextPattern CMS and later ModX for its tree-like page hierarchy. Unfortunately/Fortunately, within the same month, the whole department decided to migrate to a CMS and Plone was selected. All departmental pages would therefore be under a uniform style and template, not of my particular design.

This represents my third web-template, again for Mambo. Unlike my previous two templates, I coded this entire thing myself, with the exception of the CSS file, which was snatched from my previous two themes. I had begun to understand the basics of table-based layout, at the time, and really begun to realize its potential in grid-like positioning.

The Mulvey Silver Template is still a tabled-design, meaning I wouldn't dare put it up live anymore. The CSS coding is abysmal, at best, too. In other words, it's a nightmare of accessibility and maintenance.

Still, I enjoy the overall look even after all these years. I'm honestly surprised I got as far along on this template, which was ready for launch on the Mambo platform, despite my near complete lack of web coding knowledge. Perhaps I'll polish this one up under a modern table-less manifestation for formal release to the public.
