Day 5 of April’s Sketch-A-Day Inspiration Challenge was born from molecular modeling of a protein using PyMol . While rendering Aerolysin, a toxin produced by certain bacteria, I started goofing off with different methods of rendering, making each individual atom a sphere and then adding a net of dots over it. Usually the two methods aren’t used together, but it had an interesting textural effect. PyMol can Ray-Shade, yielding highly realistic lighting and shadowing effects, which were implemented here. Kinduv a surreal thing with no immediate value; purely an experiment in creating “art” using something that’s anything but an art-tool
