For Day 6 of April’s Sketch-A-Day Inspiration Challenge Corel’s Painter X was the tool used. This is a secondary sketch I made using the pencil and smear tools of Painter X to simulate a painted feel. Even though Painter X is meant to be used for its painting tools, which are excellent, I never considered myself a painter, and used to do this with regular paper and pencils. It was surprisingly effective and accurate in the software, although the blending often grabs background colors and mixes ‘em in (real paper and pencil doesn’t smear the white of the paper into a penciled area of the drawing, for instance).
The original pen-and-ink sketch was made during a boring scientific talk at my university. Was thinking of a modern take on an Egyptian Ankh symbol. I’ll try and get the original scanned and posted here as soon as I can find it.
