Updating Define the Great Line...
« on: January 19, 2007, 05:16:11 PM »

What's up guys? I was just letting everyone know that I am updating my latest theme to try to make it look better I am including a link to the ss of what I have so far. What I would like is any suggestions that anyone could give me to help make it look better.
 Thanks,
  Haxer

In my humblr opignion (and it's mine) the bevels with a softer light sources given like a nifty orb should add more aspect and atmosphear to the wallpaper.....the rest should do it  Tongue

Cheesy  I love watching themes evolve!  The new highlights and shading of the AstonMonitor, AstonClock, AstAmp and taskbar are positively HOT!  I'm biased towards themes that have the "grip-ability" factor - that look like you could use your hand to push/pull/prod a skinned element around the screen.  The new graphics impart that "grip-ability".  I approve! Cheesy

Oh!  BTW: for the shine effect on the AClock - you can easily tweak the depth of the shine by varying the RADIUS and DEPTH of the Bevel layer-style to further enhance its spherical appearance.  You'll see what I mean if you move the sliders around.  By setting the DEPTH for something like 31% and varying the radius of the bevel you can change it from a reflective "puffy" looking dimensionality to full-out spherical.

Ok, I'll play around with that, I added a 'shine' layer to it where I used the white brush and layer opacity trick, I think it turned out nicely. I also redid the icons for mycomp, themewiz...etc with better layer styles and a shine layer, I think you will like them, I do.

It's already a fine improvement.  Can't wait to see how this one evolves Smiley

http://www.astonshell.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5122 this is the latest ss. I even took the time to make the icons .ankz so there is slight animation. The next thing I'm gonna play around with is .3pic files for the systray. I have never used these before, but I think I may be able to figure out what to do. Anyway, the systray will look much nicer when I'm through. (The ctrl + shift + c works wonders for me, along with paying more attention to what looks good and what doesn't look as good.)

Coming together real smoothly, and quick!

Ctrl+Shift+C in photoshop is such a simple thing, but besides copying and pasting, it's probably the next most common move I make.

Smiley Good question Smiley

Signature modding goes a little something like this:

Through the menu at the top, select Profile.  Then in the dark menu on the left, select Forum Profile Information.  Then scroll down to Signature.

To make your signature a graphic, enter something like this:
Code:
[img]http://www.link_to_your_image.gif[/img]

Example:
[img]http://www.skinyourscreen.com/hostedimages/mrbiotechsig2.gif[/img]

To make your signature a graphic that links somewhere, do something like this:
Code:
[url=http://www.yoursite.com][img]http://www.yourimage.gif[/img][/url]

Example:
[url=http://www.skinyourscreen.com][img]http://www.skinyourscreen.com/hostedimages/mrbiotechsig2.gif[/img][/url]

Ah, I knew it was something like that with my limited knowledge of html and stuff, but I wasn't exactly sure. Thanks.

Love the new sig: good work Smiley

It's unfortunate that many Forum and CMS scripts use bbCode for formatting.

Code:
bbcode = stuff like [url][/url], [b][/b], and [list][/list]

The only reason it's popular is because the scripts can easily sanitize submitted BBCode formatting (to remove malicious stuff).

I've become quite fond of Textile for markup within sites like this.  It's easier to use, more intuitive, and generally requires no closing tags.  The Main SYS site and the Podcast site both use textile markup, although I haven't found a way to do it with this forum software yet.
