When I was using PS7 if I Cnt/lleft clicked a layer that was active it would select any elements in that layer... guarding a friends laptop during the holidays I've been messing with PS CS2 v9 the command to sleect elements within a layer is obviously different, to the point of being ellusive...  please get me out of my misery someone!

I quite like the speed of CS, but has it lost one of its' basic charms?

Y'know, I honestly haven't used CS2... although my lab will be purchasing CS3 at its release.

cant' help....never used a laptop...or in other words these last months, as i was so far from earth 

we had CS2 at my school, and I didn't like it for that very reason. I actually switched computers to one that had PS7 on it so I didn't have to deal with that.

You know haxer I had a feeling that was going to be the answer... how bizarre that such an important function should be neglected? In fact the only thing I have found that this later version possesses that v7 didn't is a warp facitilty.... on the downside most of the great plugins that have been made for PS won't work with CS9 ~ sounds like progress according to the  Microsoft scale fo things

And ya, I agree with you about the progress the y don't seem to be making with photo shop, it seems like they just release new crap to get money from the "latest and greatest" when it actually should be an update you have the option of downloading on line. One thing you might try if you haven't already is going to Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts... and see if you can find the answer in there.

Incidentally, anyone give that free CS3 Beta a shot?  You have to have CS2 registered and it installs on top of it.

But why? I mean you have users get totally used to how a program works then switch it up on the when a later version comes out.

That's a really good question   It'd be a major mistake for Adobe to make things more difficult for their existing user base, which is gonna be probably more than 70% of their sales.  I haven't looked at the preferences or other internal options:  does CS2 contain a setting to revert the keys to previous versions?

Well I for one was disappointed by what I saw of CS(anything)... heck 7 was great, and if progress means altering a persons way of using the program it can only mean a reshuffle to try to gain a few bucks before it all goes tits up ( sorry that's bad English  ).

I saw this happen with Jasc PSP. I had a working copy of 7+ that did everything I was capable of ~ and a lot more. I was encouraged to buy 9 at a special price just a month before they sold out to Corel ( wish I'd known about that ). Corel then introduced an upgrade that bloated the app to more than twice its' original size, but also made it incompatable with many of the PS plugins that formally had worked with the Jasc version.

When it comes to market and product vision, I'm a Steve Jobs supporter.  On the personal side, however, I think Gates is a better human being.

Re: solid state computing:  I'm surprised the article didn't mention Negroponte's OLPC system... it's all solid state and runs linux.  There was a really high-end PC dealer called "L" that used to make laptops that had a 4GB solid-state doohicky just to hold and run the OS.  Supposedly the fastest Windows laptops on the planet, before they closed out.  They've still got a web-presence at http://www.l-computer.com/ but I don't think they're selling anymore.
