Do it, throw all caution, responsibilities, work, and school stuff to the wind and get out there! hahaha. I have done that a time or two. I really want to do it next Wednesday because some of the best bands I know are playing a show in Dallas. But I have to find a way to get there and to pay for my ticket haha.

Would love to go check it out, but Christmas is coming, and I've got kids.

Bought 'em a Wii and a bunch of other stuff from a Kmart (yes, I know, Kmart) that was going out of business.  Picked up a second NintendoDS for only $97 so the kids can play each other - or play dad.

Long story short (too late): funds are gonna be tight.

I know how that is... not exactly with having to provide for kids or anything, but I usually have no money to my name, and usually when I get some, I end up spending it on either new hardware, or new software to use for skinning/themeing/modeling purposes. It's all good though, because I can still have fun sans money =D

Oh ya, and KMart... hahaha. Nice. Grin

Sadly the "money's too tight to mention" syndrome is everywhere at the moment... not that I use credit cards, but the knock on effect from this credit crisis is pushing up the price of day to day essentials. I've been putting off getting new spectacles because they cost an arm & a leg ~ how crazy is that?!

I saw a little something that sums up the state of the US economy that made me laugh ~

Quote
Investment analyst and entrepreneur Dr. Marc Faber concluded his monthly bulletin (June 2008) with the following:

'The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China . If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer it will go to India . If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala . If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany . If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US.
I've been doing my part.'

On a brighter note a local folk band, Suntrap ( http://www.suntrap.org/ ), are doing a free gig in the church just around the corner from me on the 10th in aid of a mental health awareness week, and I've been assured a couple of seats. They're actually a pretty good band ( if you like folk ), and I've got all their albums to date, so I was delighted when Paul Hoad emailed me and suggested I come along to the show.

Haha, that quote is so true. The only problem with it though is that according to my friends in the know, the only good beer is imported beer, so if you are a real beer drinker, that theory goes out the window =D. But really, the state that some things are in right now sucks. Way too much outsourcing.

On a lighter note, I think I'm going to be able to go to that show in Dallas because I found someone that is willing to drive!
And have fun at the show you are going to. Grin

What about Sam Adams?  Not that I drink beer.  It's interesting how many micro-breweries there are in Utah - SURPRISING!!!

Great quote, too, Micke!  At the rate the US is going, there's not gonna be much on the shelves that doesn't come from somewhere else.  We've seen a rash of large companies part with divisions sold to the Chinese (IBM, for example, with its laptops).

It's scary though, the biggest energy company here in the UK is EDF ( Energie de France )... they have just been given the go ahead by Asshole ~ sorry, Gordon Brown to build 12 new atomic power stations in Britain??? have you seen the size of this country on a global map? Heck we won't need plug sockets, we'll just be able to stand our appliances on the worktop and they'll all begin glowing anyway!

Where will the waste go? What's the half life of carbon 14? Shucks if I start thinking about it I'll grow older!

Spent 2 hours this afternoon playing with my truss rod ( well I'm a big boy now ) and resetting the string intonation. I just wasn't happy with the tension or general feel of the thing, but I wasn't too sure how to deal with it either...so I looked up how to deal with a Floyd Rose Bridge, crossed my fingers and went for it. Now I've got a really sweet action and a much better tuning... for all the good it will do me  Smiley

What a great gig this was... small crowd ( I think it was mainly family and friends ) and a lot of amusing banter between songs. All four of the band were on form, but I was really impressed by Sara Byers... beautiful and talented ~ in the course of the evening she played violin, accordion, bohdran, penny whistle, and 6 string accoustic... and played all of them brilliantly.

That surprised me Rich  Roll Eyes. At its' simplest it's just a goat skin stretched on a wooden frame, but the quality of the skin can make a lot of difference. A friend who has a music shop got one in for me, but as the thing is tuned by heating it, the skin gave out in no time ~ that was years ago before we had the web, so if I was going to get another I'd go to this site ~ Hobgoblin ~ and opt for 16" and not 18".

Here's a nice bit of bodhran playing ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbNJTUQTXpY&feature=related
