Pardon the dust - site template construction
« on: August 06, 2006, 01:12:27 AM »

Didn't want to startle anybody TOO bad, but as you can see (if you've refreshed the page), the SYS forum is under some revision.  I just plain got sick of looking at a template that had absolutely nothing to do with our site.  The observant will also note that the SYS Splash page has also been updated to this style (as of about a two weeks ago).  Yup, there's a revised template coming across the board originally intended for the site's new Ruby-On-Rails application.

Don't fret... that humongous left-column will shrink in successive iterations, but the site theme overall is meant to open up more in the browser, giving more space to the tutorials, forums, and other schmackie we likes to post here.

Suggestions (...gulp...) welcome!

Hello Buddy

though the things i love much in this new template, is the colors.....even it's a bit too dark, but the important things is that it's easy on the eyes, and we got feeling that we are really on a community site, not a commercial crap!! Evil Afro

You shoulld update it as nessesary but dont forget that we observe the changes from near places Grin

the splash screen is Great to look at......nice job bud! we like the  suite.

NERIO!!!

 Grin Grin Grin

Great to see you here!  The template is a work in progress.  My goal is to put about 1/2 hour of work into it per day.  Started with BlocZone's "Neptune" template and have been gradually adding graphics and changing colors.  Eventually I want light text over a dark background.  We'll see how long it takes to get there.

How you feeling?

Smiley  Thanks.  Trying to make all the theme buttons right now.  Still renders funny under the Safari browser on a Mac.  Firefox seems to get the best results.

The same theme will be applied to the main site shortly.  Have had it in the works the longest outta the bunch... trying to make the text bigger but still permit more information to be displayed.

I've been having a lot of fun with it... it's a constant work in progress.  Maybe I'll employ the Getting Real Method and just put up what I've got and then work on it incrementally while it's live.

I'll try putting it up before the week is done. Smiley

Chatbox is something I've wanted to hook-up since piecing the site back together.  Cheesy Very good idea... it would likely see more user interaction than the forum itself, although comment-spam is always an issue.  I've been IP banning 4-5 addressed a week with the recent wave of spamming activity.  Have had to delete 10-15 recent sign-ups here in the forums because of spamming.

Where would you rather see a chatbox?  On the main SYS site or on the forum?  Either option is something I can work with.  I'm tempted to go with Forum simply for security reasons.

The Main SYS site is still undergoing stylistic renovation.  As I'm learning more about proper web-standards, I've been trying to increase accessibility and usability of the site incrementally.  Permanent work in progress, I suppose Cheesy

well, if you are planing to make the main site as a simple portal, i dont think that a chatbox is good there, so maybe it should be here in the forum, to get more interactivity along with forum posts.

but hey, if it's a spam maker dont creat it!!! we wont see another atack hapening because of a simple chatbox!! Angry Grin

Anyway, friends know that they can meet us here in the forum rather then a chatbox....Right??

Good point. Smiley

I may try and get a forum chatbox up that requires login.  That would enhance security while still permitting spontaneous conversation.

BTW Nerio, I can't tell you how good it is to have you back! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
