Good question Chris, I can't imagine they sell that many t-shirts ( have you ever seen anyone wearing one? ). Presumably a few bucks get donated by well wishers but would that pay for the groceries?

This is straight from mozilla.com, but I still don't see where the income comes from...

"Mozilla is not a traditional software company. We are a global community and public benefit organization dedicated to improving the Internet experience for people everywhere.

We work in the open through a highly disciplined, transparent and cooperative process to coordinate the development and marketing of Mozilla technologies and products as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation. The Mozilla Corporation has no outside shareholders. The Mozilla Foundation is a California non-profit corporation exempt from federal income tax under IRC 501(c)3.

This unique structure enables Mozilla to financially support and cultivate competitive, viable community innovation. The result is great products built by passionate people -- and better choices for everyone."

I thought it was principally operated by volunteers.  They must have some capital, though.  Angel investors, perhaps?

Wow, if it is operated mostly by volunteers, then they do a surprisingly good job of staying motivated enough to stay ahead of the curve.

Mozilla is the parent organisation for a bunch of open-source software, yeah? The volunteers are all doing this because they want to write cool software for fame and glory, or because they want to write the software that suits their personal needs, etc... They need some finances to run their webservers and soforth, but you'll find that the money here comes from angel investors, donations and sales of tshirts and soforth from their store.

Open source for the win Smiley
