GIF is a guaranteed format, and although SMF's default smilies are 16x16, I believe it will permit larger than that.

I like to use PNG images, but they don't always render in Microsoft's browsers due to inability to follow W3C standards.

Let's set it up like this:

Emoticon Submissions
  • GIF Format file, 128x128 pixels max size, 16x16 pixels prefered.
  • Suggested text to type to cause your emoticon to be rendered (e.g.: ":mrbiotech")
  • Attach your GIF image to your forum post.

If this gets good, I might even promote it to its own topic, or even forum area.  Cheesy

Some mods to the emoticons... feels like they could use some more contrast.

Any size Emoticon will work in the software, it's just easier to write replies and start posts when the majority of the editor part of the screen isn't taken up by ginormous emoticons.  Still... DeviantArt's set a great precedent in this department largely by the number they employ.
