EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEAK!

Sooooo... I am working on a solar system theme for a guy on the Aston Forums. And I thought I would give the fellows here at SYS an exclusive sneak peak. The white circles around all the planets are going to be animated to appear from the bottom up on mouse over (there will be pngs included that will look like they do now for people with slower computers) and there are a couple more anims that I am going to do including a star field, and a comet. Please let me know what you think of the start button and tray so far. I'll keep this updated here so you guys can see my progress.

Sci-fi-monitor-like, something I'd put up on the desktop

Considering the warmth of the colors in the wall, it would be nice to see them echoed in the toolbar - perhaps using a low-saturation red, orange, or brown instead of the green.

Hmm... Well, I was trying to be more Computer Consoleish, and that color green seems to be a popular color for that sort of thing, however I'll give more colors a try and see how I like it. Thanks.

UBER-busy, unfortunately. I've had two speaking commitments on my research, trying to finish a molecular cloning for my current project, and training a new PhD. student all at once. Sick, too (bronchitis). Luckily I'm taking 10 days of vacation starting the end of next week - the first vacation of more than a day I've had in over 2.5 years.

Pulling some ol' themes outta the closet, too Wink

Wow, I thought I had it bad being without a working computer for a couple of months. I can see now that there are worse things in the world.

THANKS!... speaking of which: Happy Thanksgiving to all! I know it's a US holiday, but I think having a holiday devoted specifically to gratitude is a fantastic idea anywhere in the world. My gratitude to the SYS crew: Nerio, Mickeblue, Haxer, and Littleweseth for bringing joy to my life! Cheesy

As a little holiday gift, I'll have an updated Forum template - something a little easier to get around, cleaner in style, but pretty nonetheless. It'll be based LOOSELY off the experimental template up on the SYSPodcast site.

attached is another preview, I need advice on the main menu and elements now. Also, the menu element showing now is the mouse over state, the regular one is a green oval the same size as the red one with the same layer styles.

Gratzi! Gave me an opportunity to try out some AJAX implementation. Still hate messing with templating systems that are more PHP than HTML. I made the mistake of learning some Ruby before PHP, making PHP look like oodles of chicken-scratch in comparison.

I am getting a basic quick intro to Ruby next week. My PHP teaching went swell, and now I actually know what it is.
