So, after I got my old hard drive to start working again, my new one promptly failed. I don't know what it is with me and hard drives, but they don't seem to like me. Now I am booting Linux and using gParted to try and get it up and running again, but I am having a great deal of trouble. I'm about ready to give up and make Best Buy give me a new hard drive. Just thought I would throw that out there. I also thought that you guys would find it wonderful that I was using Linux (even if it is for a limited time) instead of Windows. Smiley

My heart goes out to you on this one Chris... I have a love hate relationship with the darned things, to say nothing of OS's.

I've been running XP without all the extra cr@p ( SP2 etc. ) since I lost my last hard drive ( I think it was Nov last year )... it's been behaving itself until a couple of days ago when I installed Xion audio player ~ I wanted to check out this skinning using just a psd. file thing ~ and it's been playing hell with the system. Even Firefox has now got a mind of it's own when I use the player.
On top of that now Linux won't recognise my sound card, so I've got to do a reinstall of that 'cos I can't find another way around it!

Yep, Ihave been wondering that same thing... as I bought a hard drive from walmart. (They have a 90 day return policy that will let me take it back after Bset Buy replaces my other one Cheesy)

Best of luck with the situation(s).  I've got an external hard-drive that I really rely on.

Every consider installing and running new software in a virtual layer or machine in order to avoid goofy inter-program interactions?

My troubles run deeper than 2 bad hard drives, now it is 3. Or is it? Actually at this point I am sure that my MOBO is defective, because a 3rd hard drive just died and my system just stopped recognizing my optical drives. lol. So now hopefully ASUS will actually work with me on this and get me a new mobo quick like. I am hoping beyond reason that they actually upgrade it to cover my hard drive costs, but I think that at this point it is a false hope because they said that even if it is their fault they don't cover damage to other components. I think that policy is total crap and I am going to include a plea in my description of my issues for a new/better mobo. So, my new themes that I was going to make are on hold AGAIN, and I will let you guys know when I am back on track.
