Call Of Duty 4
« on: April 23, 2008, 11:05:40 AM »

Well, I'm going to try and breathe life back into this part of the forum. Smiley

Call of Duty 4 is the winner of numerous game of the year 2007 awards. And in my book, I would have to say it took the cake. I was thoroughly impressed at every turn. COD 4 gets my 100% satisfaction rating and full recommendation.

Chris, I once sat in a pub in Bayswater in 1992 ( we are talking London ) and had an argument with a big fellow Irishman ( it came to blows actually and I am only here to write this because others in the pub came to my support ) from County Sligo who had bought a ticket to the US in 1974 because the 'thick shiznit' felt that every man should have a war to his name.

Unable to correctly direct his anger about the injustice shown to his/my/our race by the British government over 500 years, he instead went and kicked the feckin shiznit out of a lot of innocent Viatnamese villagers. Abusing any Cambodian woman that was available whilst on R&R.

My argument was, and is, that that sort of thinking is nigh on neolithic... and is about one synapse from the lower primates... they being the ones UP the evolutionary ladder.

You proclaim yourself a Christian gentleman, and yet you advocate these computer war games that have BEEN proven to be detrimental to growing minds... and you also stated somewhere that you support Bush, a warmongering self serving money maker ( like his father before him ).
Shame on you sir.

First of all, video games don't have the effect that they have supposedly been 'proven' to have. I have played shooters all my life and I get sick to my stomach over the thought of harming another human. I couldn't even accidentally run over a dog that darted out in front of my car without thinking about it every day for years. I also still cry when I watch sad movies. According to the 'experts' I should laugh about killing animals, hookers, gang bangers, or any other living thing. However, I find it sick. I choose the games that I play carefully. For instance, you will never see me advocating Grand Theft Auto. It is sick and twisted. Everything in that game series is foul. However, I do like shooters. I have played through several with mixed feelings towards many. I see no problem with many such as Half-Life, Counter-Strike, FEAR, COD (whole series) HALO, Unreal 3, and more. There are some though that I have mixed feelings about. Any fps that is chock full of profanity, I stay away from, also ones that are blatantly against what I believe I shy away from as well. Jericho is a prime example of this. Jericho was full of tasteless blatant disregard for ANY religious belief. I could go more in depth in a full review, but I will refrain here. What it comes down to is that God has made it clear to me that it is ok for me to play shooters, but obviously I have to be mature enough to differentiate between the fiction of the game world and reality. As far as this pertains to COD 4, it is the single BEST example for 'arm chair soldiers' and others of what our troops go through. Of course it is not any where close to being there, and I am not saying that, but it portrays a REALITY very well. In fact, what i think some people need to get over is the fact that war is a part of life. It will never go away. There is not stopping it. And I do not see anything wrong with a game that portrays the front lines as accurately as possible. If you don't want to see it, then don't. It is as simple as that. But don't hold me back because of your inhibitions.
And just to clear things up. I am not a war monger. I don't support going to war for global domination, or more power, or profit. I FULLY support a war that is fought to better everyone involved. Which leads me to my next point.
I do support Bush. As a CHRISTIAN I support Bush. I am sorry if that is unpopular, but it is my personal view. He is not a war monger. He is not in the war in Iraq to get rich off of oil. The people who came up with that were searching for things to say to get the conservative views out of their way. They want to make him look as bad as possible. And by showing what they want us to see in the liberal controlled media, that is what happens. The war in Iraq was to end the regime of a horrible dictator and to continue the war on terrorism. Yes there were mistakes but what is done is done. And now there is an unpopular war. I'm sorry that you don't see eye to eye with me, that is unfortunate. I wish that everyone could be on the same playing field, but since this is not the case, I think we need to agree to disagree and not discuss this any further. I don't want to see people mad at each other based on political ideas in a skinning forum. Maybe if anything this particular section has taught us that SkinYourScreen isn't ready for a gaming topic, and it should be lain to rest, but that is for mrbiotech to decide. I for one and for the removal of this section. It seems like it has done enough damages and driven in enough wedges to justify that. On one hand I will be sorry to see it go since gaming is my passion, but on the other hand, the people and relationships here are more important to me than a spot to discuss gaming. So the fate of this discussion topic is now up to you mrbiotech. We leave it in your capable hands.

Whoa! cool down Chris... I never questioned your faith, merely your politics as a Christian... that, surely, is what the franchise is all about?

Unfortunately you will NEVER sell me the idea that a game that revels in killing, stealing, or getting one over on your opponent in a violent fashion is a good thing...
it's just the way I am.

We may to agree to differ, but that is what good friends do :-)

Ok, that sounds good. I still don't know about the whole gaming part of this forum though. Wink Oh, and I wasn't upset or anything, I guess I come across that way in my writing. I was merely trying to fully explain myself and how I can believe/advocate what I do. I am definitely unconventional in certain areas of my beliefs and I don't want people to take me the wrong way so when presented with a question (or berating) like you posed, I just go into vast amounts of detail. I guess I feel like the more that I add, the less likely there will be gaping holes that I left out that I will have to go back and fill. It is my personality.  Cool

Ok, that sounds good.

I'm just glad you aren't pissed off with my slightly drunken ( actually VERY drunken ) rantings, but we can agree to disagree politically.

My main man can offer you this as a peace offering... 15 days until I get to soak him in live! ~ I'm like a kid looking forward to Christmas
